Today, we moved up north to somewhere much warmer. Cairns, which is a tropical paradise is situated in Northern Queensland. Its amazing how each city in Australia look so different. Cairns was so much warmer than Melbourne and Adelaide ... clear skies and so full of natural vegetation. We were finally able to take off our jackets! We stayed at the Double Tree by Hilton in Cairns, a hotel with stunning views of the sea. Although I would have loved to sit by my window, sip a coffee and watch the day go by... I didn't have time for that! We were going to be really busy with land and sea activities for the next 2 days and I had only today to explore a bit of what was around me. There was nothing much that we could really do in the city centre except take a leisure stroll on the Cairns Esplanade, enjoy the little shops and restaurants by the sea and visit a mall. If you love ice cream, you'll go crazy. Cairns is full of gelato shops. We tried out the gelato at Devine Gelato. No trip would be complete without trying one or maybe two. The walk along Cairns Esplanade was beautiful too. There's a giant communal swimming pool and BBQ area. We didn't use either, though we saw people tanning on the grass! We hung around for a while and enjoyed live music by talented street performers. Later that evening, we visited the Cairns Night Market for a foot massage! Yup, all that walking around really got to us! Besides the massage parlours, the market also houses a few restaurants and shops too. The weather got a bit chilly towards the evening and we were back into our sweater again. We dined at one of the Indian restaurants that night as I was craving a biryani! Check out my review on them here. Watch out for the next post x
